Review of the Meeting of Alumni Associations in Kinshasa

On May 15, 2024, a meeting was held between the Alumni Associations of Kinshasa and several academic and institutional representatives of ULiège. This seminar, organized under the aegis of PACODEL and WBI, brought together key figures in university and economic cooperation between the University of Liège and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Notable attendees included:

  • Jan Bogart, President of PACODEL
  • Françoise Navez, PACODEL Coordinator
  • Raoul Sambieni, Central Africa Platform Contact Point
  • Éléna Chane-Alune, Head of the Alumni Service - ULiège
  • Paulette Mukendi, Head of the Master’s in Management Sciences (HEC – UPC)
  • Rosette Kabona Balay, Advisor for Cooperation and Economic Partnerships, WBI

The seminar was opened by David Thonon, Secretary General of WBI in Kinshasa, who warmly welcomed the participants. Jan Bogart, President of PACODEL, then highlighted the importance of networking and strengthening academic and professional ties.

Alumni Associations in Kinshasa

Several associations were represented at this event:

  • AAULiège – DRC: Founded in 1970, this association covers all disciplines, with 126 active members, including 31% professors and 10% medical doctors.
  • Amicale des Bioingénieurs de Gembloux: Present throughout the DRC, it has 10 active members and plays a key role in welcoming students and professors.
  • HEC – ISC: Represented by Celestin Tangamo, this association brings together graduates from nine ULiège cohorts and manages a dedicated Facebook group for professional opportunities.
  • HEC – UPC: The newest of the Alumni associations, it currently gathers its first graduating class.

Objectives and Perspectives

This seminar marks a significant step in structuring and developing the ULiège Alumni network in Central Africa. The discussions initiated pave the way for closer cooperation and enhanced recognition of the expertise of ULiège graduates in the DRC.
